Spotify and Kobalt announced a licensing agreement for Spotify's forthcoming AI-powered fan-made covers and remixes tool.
Kobalt songwriters who participate will be eligible to share in the value generated when listeners create licensed covers or remixes using their songs. Spotify says the paid Premium add-on is designed around consent, credit and compensation, and that each creation will direct listeners back to the original song.
Kobalt adds a major independent music publisher to a rights structure that already includes agreements involving Universal Music Group and Merlin. The announcement does not disclose a launch date, consumer price, royalty formula, catalogue eligibility, permitted transformations or withdrawal mechanics.
The agreement does not establish that every Kobalt-administered composition participates or that songwriter participation clears an associated sound recording.

Suno launched Studio 2.0 for Premier subscribers, adding direct MIDI import, recording and editing, a wavetable synth and the ability to use MIDI clips as prompts for audio generation.
A beta chat bar understands the active production session and can create instruments and vocals, modify a session, or design reusable audio-effect plugins. Studio 2.0 also adds stem separation for imported audio, track and plugin automation, and unlimited 32-bit/48kHz multitrack and stem exports from Studio.
Suno does not disclose how imported MIDI and external audio are retained or used, what provenance metadata accompanies generated assets, or how custom plugins are documented. Plugin creation does not consume credits at launch, although Suno says that may change.

Beatport expanded its Beatdapp partnership to identify AI-generated music across its catalogue. Fully or majority AI-generated tracks are not permitted and will be withheld during ingestion, with rightsholders notified.
Majority-human tracks created with AI assistance remain eligible. Beatport says those releases will be tagged during ingestion so its curation team can understand what it is reviewing and featuring.
Beatport does not publicly quantify “majority,” disclose detection accuracy or evidence thresholds, or describe an appeal and false-positive process. The announcement does not establish that the ingestion tag will be displayed to consumers, and a detection result should not be treated as proof of copyright infringement.
DAOR-SIGNAL-20260814-004 — Thailand applies layered copyright licensing to AI voice conversions and remixes
Recovery lane: Thailand's Department of Intellectual Property issued the guidance on August 13. It is included inside the expanded 72-hour eligibility window.
Thailand's Department of Intellectual Property said using protected songs for AI voice conversion, remixes or reference-based music generation may implicate reproduction, adaptation and communication rights when recognizable protected elements remain.
The department emphasized that a song can contain separately controlled lyrics, composition, arrangement, sound-recording and performer rights. Permission from one rightsholder or for one form of exploitation does not automatically authorize another AI-enabled use.
The guidance also distinguishes public-domain compositions from protected recordings, performances, arrangements and adaptations. Thailand has no AI-specific copyright provision or settled court precedent for these uses, so the department says each case must be assessed on its facts. It also offers mediation for AI-assisted copyright disputes.
Why it matters
Today's package shows four layers of AI-music infrastructure developing simultaneously: negotiated composition licensing, agentic creation tooling, automated distribution enforcement and jurisdiction-specific copyright guidance.
Spotify is assembling rights coverage before product launch. Suno is moving beyond prompt-to-song generation toward a production environment where performed MIDI, imported audio and session-aware agents interact. Beatport is enforcing a human-versus-AI threshold at ingestion. Thailand is applying conventional layered-rights analysis to voice conversion and remixing.
Together, the developments make a binary “AI used” field insufficient. Rights, creation evidence, platform classification and jurisdictional permissions need separate records.
