The Korea Music Copyright Association voted to withdraw amendments governing the registration and trust treatment of music created with AI assistance.

KOMCA said broader standards should be developed through discussion involving South Korea's National Assembly, government and music-industry stakeholders.

New AI-assisted registrations will be withheld. Yonhap also reported that works already accepted under the withdrawn framework will enter cancellation procedures.

The withdrawal does not establish that AI-assisted compositions are categorically incapable of copyright protection. It removes KOMCA's recently introduced internal route while national standards remain unresolved.

Stability says the financing will support creative-production products, applied research and professional services. The announcement follows Stable Audio 3.0, which Stability describes as trained on fully licensed data.

Equity participation does not independently establish that any investor's catalogue is licensed for training, that every represented creator participates, or that creators share in investment returns.

Recovery lane: Luminate published its announcement on August 25 without an exact time.

Luminate has built a framework for identifying AI-generated songs and artists in CONNECT.

The system combines streaming data, metadata and audio-identification technology. Luminate is also working toward ingesting self-declared information from DSPs and attribution data from AI-music companies.

Luminate says it has already identified thousands of potentially AI-generated items. User-visible “AI Generated” labels are not yet live and are planned for a later rollout.

Artists and labels will receive a review process for disputing classifications. An unlabeled item should not be interpreted as confirmed human-made because Luminate has not screened its entire database.

DAOR-SIGNAL-20260827-004 — Hook appoints MusicInfra to administer rights and royalties

MusicInfra will manage licensed-rights and royalty administration for Hook as the social-music platform expands its fan-creation products.

The infrastructure includes composition and master-rights clearance, territory-level publisher visibility, DDEX-compliant reporting, payment administration, licence management and recoupment tracking.

This is a separate implementation milestone following Hook's UMG licence. The earlier agreement established permissions and artist controls; the MusicInfra appointment identifies part of the operational backend that will administer those rights and payments.

The complete commercial terms, payment schedules, audit rights and data-access arrangements are not public.

SoundCloud launched a limited US beta allowing approximately 200 Artist Pro creators with Fan Support enabled to sell downloadable tracks directly from their profiles.

SoundCloud says it takes no commission. Artists receive sale proceeds less payment fees and applicable taxes.

Artists determine the available file format. SoundCloud plans to extend access to eligible creators later in the fall.

“Zero commission” should not be interpreted as zero transaction cost, global availability or universal creator eligibility.

Soundplate acquired audio-technology company Stemmer, whose mastering technology powers services across more than 20 music platforms and websites.

Soundplate says it brought Stemmer's audio algorithms in-house and rebuilt the system around a proprietary serverless mastering API.

The infrastructure powers Soundplate's redesigned Online Mastering service, vinyl-mastering engine and AI Stem Splitter. Soundplate will continue supporting Stemmer's existing white-label and B2B customers.

The transaction terms, customer contracts, data-retention policies and treatment of uploaded audio for model improvement were not disclosed.

These developments show AI-music governance moving from broad policy statements into operational infrastructure.

KOMCA demonstrates that registration rules can be reversed when institutional authority and authorship standards remain unsettled. Luminate is building an identification and appeals layer. Hook and MusicInfra are connecting licensed fan creation to clearance, reporting and payments. SoundCloud is adding direct commercial transactions, while Soundplate is turning audio processing into embeddable infrastructure.

Stability AI's financing adds another layer: major rightsholders are taking equity positions in selected AI companies while licensing, provenance and creator-participation questions remain distinct.
